I’m reading The Psychology of Stupidity, and like most readers, I’m starting to realize how stupid I’ve been—especially when it comes to decision-making. As Oscar Wilde, Bertrand Russell, Francis Bacon, and even Nietzsche pointed out, maybe humans are the least rational species of all. On the bright side, I’m not alone in this realization. At least I can recognize my own stupidity. But there’s a catch: I almost always come to this realization just a moment too late, after the decision has already been made.
